The former mersey based tug Trafalgar was recently craned aboard the SAL Heavy Lift Ship REGINE at the JC Meijers yard at Rotterdam for transport to Taipei (Taiwan) for service at the recently opened container terminal.

Trafalgar will be renamed to "SKY 501"

Trafalgar was Built by McTay Marine, Bromborough, Wirral in 1998 hull number 119.

Sold to Smit Towage in 2007 and renamed SMIT TRAFALGAR.
BRO GAZELLE make first visit to Liverpool (4 images)
The 4,200gt 7,600 dwt product tanker BRO GAZELLE was delivered from the Dutch
shipyard Ferus Smit on the 6th Feb 2009.
The vessel is the ninth Broström vessels in a series of ten being built in partnership with Erik Thun AB.

The BRO GAZELLE and her sister vessels are specifically designed for the North European short sea tanker service. BRO GAZELLE is built as an ice class 1A vessel.

Baco Liner 3 arrives from West Africa 27/12/2008

Baco-Liner 3 is one of several of the specialist ships to call at Liverpool with a delivery of Ghana's cocoa season. The 25 metre barges are towed out of the bow section for discharge before returning to Seaforth Dock to load with south-bound general cargo.
Baco-Liner operates a regular fortnightly service from Ghana and Nigeria to the UK, carrying both the 25 metre long barges and containers.

Mersey River Cruise 2008 (23 images)
The Mersey river cruise took place on the 21/6/08. Unlike other years the weather was terrible with wind, rain, mist. It was very quiet in the dock system with only two bulkers and the the rest bieng the regular small vessels. Inward vessels was the tanker Torv Knutsen and Keewhit.

At Pier Head Cruise Terminal was the American merchant traning ship USTS Empire State, photos of this can be seen on the previous collection.

Mv Queen Elizabeth 2 on her 40th birthday tour of the Uk made a visit to the port of Liverpool on the 21/9/07.

She arrived at the new Liverpool cruise terminal at around 7am. and later on that morning the official opening of the landing stage took place.

Her official visit ended with a firework display at 10.40pm, she left liverpool at 3.30am.

During the later part of 2008 she will be converted to a floating hotel in Dubi. She was bought by her new owners for 50 million UK pounds

RFA Diligence (A132) is a fleet repair ship for the Royal Fleet Auxillary. She was built by Oesundsvarvet AB Landskrona in Sweden in 1981 as Stena Inspector, a oil rig support ship. She first saw service for the RFA during the Falklands War.

She is designed to provide forward repair and maintenance facilities to ships and submarines operating away from their home ports.

Diligence is the Royal Navy's primary battle damage repair unit, and is on short notice to react to developing situations worldwide.

She is also fitted with a decompression chamber and has a helicopter deck has been fitted on the roof of her bridge that is large enough to support a large helicopter.

Diligence is receiveing a £16m overhaul to extend her lifespan, taking her out of action for the next 12 months. Northwestern Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders in Birkenhead won the contract to overhaul the ship. This refit will see RFA Diligence equipped for service through to the middle of the next decade.

After the sale of Adsteam operations on the Mersey to Smit Towage, Smit Liverpool is seen here on the River Heading passed Seacombe Ferry. unconfirmed reports say that tugs Canada, Collingwood and Gladstone will be replaced. The Adsteam logo on Waterloos funnel has been removed ready for the new blue paint.

Two new Smit tugs will appear soon, Smit Donau will arrive on 2nd June.

Mv Alaska Rainbow finally entered Birkenhead Dock on the night of the 5th Feb.

On the 3rd of Feb she was involved in a collision with the Isle of Mann ferry Sea Express 1 in thick fog, the Alaska Rainbow aborted attempts to enter the dock and started to make its way back out to the Bar when the collision happened.

Sea Express 1 sustained damage with flooding of the starboard engine / turbine room and broken windows and damage to the starboard bridge. Tugs assisting the Alaska Rainbow quickly went the the assistance of the Sea Express 1 to prevent the craft from sinking further and moved it over to the Pier Head.
Sea Express 1 was moved to North Western Ship Repairs on Monday 5th Feb.

Boarding at Seacombe terminal at midday with stop offs at Woodside and Pier Head ferry terminals.
Then a 5 hour river cruise taking in the Mersey Docks tour and then sailing down the Eastham and Garstone channel.

Mv ANASTASIS visits Birkenhead June 2004 (6 images)
Some views taken on board Mv Anastasis during a guided tour of the vessel.
Built in 1953 she is fitted with two Fiat diesel engines and originally sailed between Italy and Hong Kong. She was sold for scrap value of 1 Million US Dollars in the early 1970's to Mercy Ships.
Mv Anastasis does a regular trip to the African continent and will be bound for Liberia in the next couple of months.
